| TOSlink Connector |
Another
method of transferring audio signal is via fibre optic cabling and
the CE standard is the TOSLINK connector.
This transmission method is of high enough bandwidth to transfer
ALL the audio data from the source equipment to the processor where
it is decoded and - in the case of a 7.1 system for example -
output on 8 different channels to the speakers / subwoofer as
required.
Being optical digital the losses are negligible and no EMI or
RFI interference is possible. The format is not commonly installed
onto wall jacks as the fibre termination requires specialised tools
and training.
